RBS — Good People
The morning the trucks slid.
After a night of massive snowfall, one of our trucks slid down an icy hill and smashed into another right at the start of day one. We hadn’t captured a single shot and we were already massively behind. This is where your producer really comes into their own. Quick, confident, decisive calls are what great leadership is all about, so we abandoned the location and drove straight to the next scheduled scene. Meanwhile my producer and 1st AD rejigged the whole schedule, and as we shot over the next few days we scouted and found a new location for the missing scene on the final day. We never lost a thing and delivered exactly as promised. Location shooting is full of unpredictable intangibles, so you always have to be ready to roll with the punches, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Nothing beats finding that perfect location and shooting at the perfect time of day to sell the authenticity of your story.
