A call before the camera rolled.
The whole concept rested on selling the rug pull of the wedding, and the key to that was Dave’s performance. We had to really feel that punch to the heart of losing your true love. Dave and I talked about how we could prepare him for it, and with his agreement he arranged to call his most significant ex just before we rolled on the pivotal scene. I gave him the space to make that call in private, then shielded him from all the usual production mayhem so he could step straight onto set. The performance he delivered floored everyone.
